What meditation is

The practice of meditation is one of the branches of Yoga practice. Meditation is the ancient art of training and controlling the mind. Meditation leads to a state of thoughtless awareness. The active and agitated mind is made calm, and neutral. It helps keep the mind in the present moment rather than fret incessantly about the past or future. When the mind is calm, it can do wonders. Meditation helps the mind find its true nature.

Myths on meditation
  • Meditation is hard: It can take a few sittings to learn to calm the mind down, but with help from the right teachers and with regular practice, it is quite, simple.
  • You need to shut up your thoughts: Meditation is not about forcefully stopping your thoughts or trying to empty your mind, as that adds to your stress levels.
  • It takes too long: Meditation is something who’s effects can be noticeable from it’s very first session. And you don’t need an hour to see its effects. Even just 5 minutes of meditation with the right guidance can be of great help.
  • Meditation requires spiritual beliefs: No. Meditation has nothing to do with spiritual or religious beliefs; it is just a way of calming the mind.
  • If I don’t have a transcending experience, I’m doing it wrong: Meditation is not about getting it right or wrong, or adhering to strict rules for your mind.
